Ise Jingu, (the Grand Shrine of Ise)

Ise Jingu consists of two main shrines, Naiku and Geku, and 123 smaller affiliated shrines. Naiku, (located 10 minutes from the JR/Kintetsu Ise-shi Station by bus) is dedicated to the Great Sun Goddess and Ancestress of the Imperial Family, Amaterasu Omikami. The Sun Goddess was enshrined in the present sanctuary by the upper Isuzu River 2000 years ago. Geku (located near Ise-shi Station) was established in 478 A.D. and is dedicated to the Goddess of Agriculture, who is also the food supplier to the Sun Goddess, Toyouke Omikami.
