What is Ise-Shima Kirari Sensen?

Welcome to Ise-Shima Kirari Sensen - English Version- The Gem of Ise-Shima.

This English version of Kirari Sensen was translated by the staff of The Mie Times from the website of Kirari Sensen (http://www.kirari1000.com/ ) with the Kirari Sensen Project Group's approval to publicize Ise-Shima to the world as part of their projects. Photos were offered by the Group. This English version was created at the suggestion and with the support of Kirari Satooya-seido, a Mie Prefecture subsidy system.

The goal of Kirari Sensen is to let the true charms of Ise Shima be known to as many people as possible. The idea of Ise-Shima Kirari Sensen was born in the Ise Shima Living Creating Zone Vision in 1999. The project was an attempt by a group of dedicated private volunteers and officers within Mie Prefectural cities, towns, and villages to find solutions that would make the Ise-Shima area a better place to live and visit. Ise Shima Kirari Sensen is one of 45 projects created at that workshop.

A questionnaire was sent out asking respondents to recommend treasures of Ise-Shima, including beautiful scenery, historic sites, festivals, and local delicacies in 17 cities, towns and villages throughout the Ise Shima area. From July to September 2001, 4733 recommendations were submitted. The Selection Board of the Kirari Sensen Project Group chose 1056 of these gems as Kirari Sensen.
